Playlists

If you are having problems creating playlists for your archos, their are 2 major factors that come into play 1- Playlist extension (.m3u .wpl .pla) 2- file structure.
1 make sure you save your playlist as a m3u (a walkthrough on how to do this is shown towards the bottom of the page)
2 make sure your music files are all in the same folder on your pc/laptop, plus your folders need to be the same name on both devices.

Basically A playlist is a text file and can be edited in a text edit aplication (windows users can create a new text document and drag 'n' drop the playlist file on to the text file (don't worry renaming the file it gets done automatically)) You can add/delete/rename/re order within the text edit aplication.
A playlist that has been saved as a .M3u will look like this (this is an example of music in 1 folder):-

#EXTM3U
#EXTINF:0,Auf Der Maur - 12 - I need i want i will.mp3
..\Music\Auf Der Maur - 12 - I need i want i will.mp3

#EXTINF:0,Delain - Frozen.mp3
..\Music\Delain - Frozen.mp3

#EXTINF:0,Delain - See me in Shadow.mp3
..\Music\Delain - See me in Shadow.mp3

#EXTINF:0,Delain- no compliance.mp3
..\Music\Delain- no compliance.mp3

If you are using windows media player to create your playlist and you now want to use it on your archos then this is a tried and tested way. (this is only if you want to use a portion of your music library, if you have all your music on your archos skip 2 and 3)

1 make sure your archos is in hard drive mode and connected to your pc/laptop and open up your music folder.
2 pick the playlist your want in windows media player, highlight all your songs and right click and choose open file location, now right click on one of your songs that are highlighted in your music folder and click copy.
3 now go back to your music folder in your archos right click and paste, you should see your songs that have created in your playlist.
4 to create the playlist on your archos you need to go back to windows media player. Click on edit in list pane (you can re order your songs if you want to) above the 1st song you should see the name of your playlist or untitled playlist click that and five options appear choose save playlist as, give your playlist a name if not named already now choose M3U playlist in save as type, click save.
5 open your playlist folder (pc/laptop) copy the your new playlist file and paste it into the archos playlist folder.
6 safely discconnect your archos and now update your archos library (menu - settings - system - update arclibary)
now your playlist will work on your archos.

so at the end of the day make sure all your music files are in the same folder and you save your playlist as m3u and both your music folders are named the same.

if you want your music tagged use mediamonkey and not wmp.
